Horrible Move-In Experience
I faced significant challenges during my move-in experience with Gables. There were multiple issues, including:
Non-functional locks upon move-in
Significant cleanliness and odor issues in the unit (smelled like it was fumigated)
A moldy shower, broken sink drain, and damaged window screens
A SEVERE German cockroach infestation, which took two months to fully resolve. We killed over 100 in the first day alone.
These conditions made our transition incredibly stressful. At one point, we even... found roaches in our bed despite thorough cleaning. To avoid exacerbating the issue, we refrained from buying groceries and instead had to rely on takeout, incurring significant additional expenses. Frankly, it felt as though Gables was unprepared for our arrival, despite our lease being signed months in advance.
I appreciated Gables' efforts to address these problems, including complimentary pest control and replacement of infested appliances. However, these measures were reactive and do not change the fact that our initial living conditions were unacceptable. After requesting rent be refunded for the duration of the infestation, Gables gave us a $150 gift card - which was completely inadequate compared to how unlivable the apartment was for over a month.
