Do not rent through Landing!
I found an apartment through Landing that I wanted to rent. I reached out and they said, no problem and booked me as reserved for that apartment. I was watching on the app and it kept saying it was in the “unit confirmation” stage of the booking for about a week. A week and a half before my move in date I got a call saying that the apartment complex had already leased out that unit to another tenant and it was no longer available. They apologized and I figured it was an honest mistake that the... Landing wasn’t notified that the apartment unit was no longer available and gave them the benefit of the doubt. I found another apartment next door that I loved and proceeded to move forward with that one. This is where things went from bad to worse…
I was booked for this second apartment, was charged for the first month, membership fees, etc, submitted all the documents that were needed, and was told everything was good to go. 4 days before move in I still hadnt heard from anyone regarding move in, so I checked the app and again this apartment was still in ”unit confirmation“ and they had not even started to furnish/decorate/etc. So I decided to reach out to Landing just to make sure things were good to go. When I called, I was transferred to a supervisor who explained that the apartment complex denied the contract with the Landing and that the apartment was no longer going to be available to lease through them. He apologized for the inconvenience and asked if he could assist me in finding a THIRD apartment to move forward with. This is now 4 days before my scheduled move in date and I had 2 separate apartments fall through for different reasons so of course I asked for my refund and informed them I no longer had any interest in working with them. Why did I have to reach out 4 days before move-in to find out I didn’t have a place to live? Why wasn’t I called and notified right away so I could start seeking other housing arrangements? Terrible customer service and very misleading website.
What I wish I knew: the way the Landing works is they find vacant apartments to post on their site and when you apply for them, they have to apply for that apartment through their company and those units are neither reserved or guaranteed to them, nor do they necessarily have preexisting relationships or contracts with these complexes. This is one of those “if it seems to good to be true- it probably is” scenarios unfortunately.
