Budget Friendly Commuters Paradise
I'm new to the apartment community, however, I know this area of the DMV very well. I hope my review (from a local's perspective) can help others struggling to find an affordable and safe home in the DMV area.
I've observed this community over decades, and it has always been quiet and well maintained even when the neighborhood was at it's worst. First off don't judge the book by the cover. SE DC is well on its way to gentrification. This little spot is one of the last places you can get... an apartment at a reasonable price. Yes, you give up a little on safety and quiet but what do you expect you are living in a lively city. If you need new everything then maybe vintage buildings are not for you. I grew up in a house built in the 30's and I think of this type of brick walkup style apartments as "Boutique Apartments " Considering that these are 1949 apartments ole girl is holding up well. If you want amenities like a dishwasher or in unit W/D, remember that this place more than makes up for it by having several laundry areas throughout the community, easy access to public transportation and location and savings.
Management has done a great job maintaining the buildings and landscaping. Maintenance keeps the buildings and property free from trash. They even tidy up and organize the dumpster when people drop off their trash. This apartment is located less than a mile between 3 metro stations. Naylor Road metro is a 25min walk; Southern Avenue Metro is a 15-20min walk and Congress Heights is a 30 min walk. Not bad if you work in DC.
They have a lot of renovated apartments make sure to specify that. They have done a terrific job at restoring my apartment. Stainless steel appliances, Granit and cherry cabinets throughout. Huge windows and new mini blinds. New carpet and nice laminate wood style flooring. (It actually has the same inside that my previous 2021 built apartment had.) So, I felt totally at home from day one. I've seen no dead roaches or evidence of it. I'm a very clean person and I would consider that unacceptable. Staff is nice and I believe if I had an issue, they would be on top of it.
As far as safety, be aware that you live directly across from DC and are in PG county so with that in mind don't go exploring the area after dark, mind your business, keep/get off your phone in pocket and head up on a swivel. BUT you should be doing that no matter where you live.
