From an experienced Property Manager… Run.
I don’t expect a move to go PERFECTLY, but FIVE problems through the leasing process? Too many red flags.
1. We applied for an apartment at one rate, that rate was in the application, and they changed it by over $300 afterwards. It said on the application that applying locks in that rate for the move-in date you selected.
2. I specifically asked about an Amenity fee during the tour, they said there was none. Then they charged a $200 Amenity fee on the application in addition to the... application fee. When I asked about it, the leasing agent said, “Oh, I can see why you might have been confused about that.” Yes, I’m confused about that because you said there was no amenity fee, and then you charged one. A) The amenity fee is a move-in fee, not an application fee. B) When the red flags got to be too much, they wouldn’t refund the Amenity fee even though we never moved in.
3. They added a second Deposit charge, but only one of them was showing as refundable on the lease.
4. They waited until after the application to tell us that it is required to get internet through them, and it is an additional $100 per month.
5. During the tour, I asked if they would prorate us in if we moved the 2nd week of the month. She specifically agreed to prorate us in. After we applied for the date we preferred, she said we had to pay for the whole month, even if we didn’t move in at the beginning.
If anyone that worked for me played these games, they would be too big a liability to keep on the team. It is no secret from her management that she is doing this, and so I would stay away from this management company altogether.
