Go see Cali!!

Amazing property! Great location. Go see Cali at the leasing office. The property manager is awesome too. They’re friendly, professional, patient, and on top of the process!
Apartments are super cool, huge windows, upgraded appliances, and a variety of unique floor plans.

Don’t Rent Here

Just signed my second year lease lease is beginning next month, however over the weekend homeless person busted into the apartment that was down the hall from mine busted. The window climbed in ransacked the apartment while they were at home management didn’t send out an email for 2 1/2 days after it happened. I requested to be laid out of my lease since it’s not scheduled to start until next month. I was told I would have to buy it out since I signed it. They are all about the money not about... your safety and by all means I’m not concerned about your feelings.

Property Manager at The Lofts at Hawthorne Mill responded to this review

Hello Arkea,

We definitely understand that this was a surprising and unsettling incident in our otherwise peaceful community. As the event happened over the weekend when our office was closed we did notify our residents as soon as our office was...
open the following Monday, once we had a chance to gather all the facts and ensure that the residents affected were safe and settled. We're continuing to investigate how this happened and brainstorm measures to prevent something similar in the future.

Your new lease did already start and we've provided you with the break lease options available for you to choose from. If you have additional questions about those options available to you or the steps we're taking to improve our community, please reach out to your leasing office team and they'll be happy to help.

Our goal is for all our residents to feel happy and safe but we understand if you choose to move and we'll do everything in our power to help you with that transition.

Best,
The Team at Hawthorne Mill

Stay Away

After moving in, I happily gave a 5 star review and I still love living here. However, there are some issues that need to be sorted out...

-----The Positives:

The location is great - some others have left negative reviews regarding location and I disagree. I have walked home late at night many times and have felt safe. My commute to work uptown is very quick and easy in the morning as well!

The building is beautiful! I have gorgeous windows, exposed brick walls, original hardwoods and a...
shiplap ceiling!

The pool, gym and fire pits are great!

My neighbors have quickly become my friends!

-----The Negatives:

Lots of units leak.

Mushrooms grow out of the bricks inside some units.

The appliances (especially the washer/dryer and dishwasher) give frequent issues. It's my understanding that this is common with low-end Frigidaire appliances.

Kitchen cabinets - my cabinet above my fridge has fallen off the wall twice. Each time they responded to my complaints and repaired them. Clearly it was just a rush job installing them initially.

The staff has recently changed and not for the better.

Lots of spiders when I first moved in - and i still see them occasionally. The worst encounter was a 6" spider IN MY BED.

My neighbor recently sent me photos of a black snake she found in her unit. I now sleep with a shovel by my headboard just in case I have to fight them off in my unit!

There aren't really events here every month like other places I've rented in Charlotte which is really a bummer.

---- Summary:

For a long time, the architecture and location outweighed the bad - but they have since become insurmountable. Stay away!

Beautiful Property/ Poorly Managed

Love love love the historic and restored building with great amenities in a wonderful location. Unfortunately, the property management is the worst I’ve experience in years and years of renting. They cannot keep a property manager and leasing agents for longer than a few month. I assume It’s because they treat their staff with the same intimidating and threatening behavior they use towards their residents. While most residents understand lease agreements and rules, management tends to disregard... the same to benefit them (For example: entering apartments without prior notice or notice at all). They often treat residents as though we were doing them a favor by living here, lack apologies for their mistakes and accuse residents before properly investigating the issue at hand. In fact, I personally felt I had to leave this review after I moved out last month in fear of retaliation and mistreatment.

Beautiful Historic Lofts!

This building is an amazing example of how a restoration should be done. The history and architecture are blended in a manner that makes you feel like you own a little bit of the past. The amenities are top notch and an added bonus to an already great property. The windows let in tons of natural light for plant lovers. Last but not least the site staff are pleasant to work with, treat you like family, and get the job done!
