New management

Don’t move to this apartment complex. 54 Station Apartments used to be a nice place to live, but since the change of the administration in March 2022, it has been really bad. The office people never respond your emails, and if you go to there, they are not friendly and look at you as you are bothering then with your questions. They may be nice to new people when they come looking for a place to live but not to current tenants. Recently, they have partnered with a delivery service and are... forcing us to pay $15/month for something that is nothing different than the delivery from the regular couriers. It is not even optional, and they do not even explain why. We used to have a free package service that worked very well, but the new administration canceled it. Somebody is taking advantage of this new arrangement, and it is not the tenants for sure. Time to move out of here.

Reasonable construction quality, poorly managed.

These points are not in any particular order. Just as I think of them.

- Units themselves are new and of decent quality.
- A/C works well as did the washer + dryer.
- Doors in the bathroom were either installed or laid out incorrectly as they could not open both at the same time without colliding, but if they had been mounted to the opposite side of the frame they would have had room.
- Windows and weather sealing keep the unit well-insulated.
- Kitchen sink clogged often, but did not have...
food rinsed down it.
- Smoke detector was incredibly sensitive.
- Rented garage had good space and never flooded. They let me do basic car work there like oil changes.
- While I did not utilize them, the community amenities (pool, exercise room, dog park, etc) are good quality.

Both of the two different management companies that I lived under were polite to speak with, but did not particularly seem "on top of it". Perhaps they were understaffed or some other explanation.

While trying to rent a garage it became clear they did not have an accurate record of who lived in what unit or what garages were currently occupied.

Initially we were required to have our own renter's insurance, but it was later changed so that we had to pay additional money for their specific choice of insurer. This itself is not a problem, but there was some major miscommunication that ended up costing me ~$100. There were two automated emails that were sent out threatening that I would be removed if I did not send proof of my renter's insurance (which they should have already had on file). I had this insurance at the time, immediately went to confirm with my insurance company, and replied with proof. After not hearing back for a week I called the office. The person who answered heard the words "renters insurance", cut me off, and told me everything would be fine. Trusting that they knew what they were talking about, I accepted the answer and went about my day. Later I come to find out I am being charged for insurance through them, but for some reason it was ok for them to threaten to remove me if I didnt purchase my own?

I did not open many work orders. Most of them were completed very efficiently. That said, I had two work orders get closed without actually fixing the problem, both to fix the garage light.

If the management was a bit better, I think I could have justified the significant rent and perhaps stayed there for longer.

Dear Anonymous User,We are disappointed to learn of your experience while living at 54 Station regarding Renters Insurance. As stated on an addendum of your lease agreement we charge a fee to cover $100,000 of liability insurance. Residents are more... than welcomed to purchase their own renters insurance policy to add personal property protection as well. We have not required residents to provide proof of renters insurance since December 2020 at minimum. If there is anything we can do for you in the future, please call (919) 937-9077 or visit 54station.com. We wish you all the best in your new home.

Management Unresponsive

I have lived at this property for six months. In that time, I have had the fire alarm system either go off, or sound off to alert of an error seven times. I alerted management of the faulty system each time, and was notified that someone would address the issue. However, when an actual alarm sounded, management provided no notification to the building of what caused the alarm, even after multiple follow-up emails requesting information about the incident. To my knowledge, the system is faulty,... and may or may not provide an alert for an actual fire. This is alarming on both a property management and property infrastructure front as there is no confirmation of the status of the fire alarm system and management has failed to respond to concerns sent both via direct message and email. The property itself looks very nice, and I have been pleased to meet the people therein. However, the fire alarm faults and false alarms have brought me to realize this property is not worth the cost and has me looking elsewhere as considerations for breaking my lease.

Car stolen, management won’t help or alert residents!

My car was stolen from in front of my apartment building. I called the office at 54 Station the same morning (12/8/20) I noticed my car missing and let them know that I had filed a police report. I asked if they could please send out an email to residents to let them know to be careful and to see if anyone saw something and could provide helpful information. No email went out all day, so that same day (12/8/20) I went in personally to speak to someone at the office. They took down the police... report number and other details and said they would file an incident report and send out something to residents. I sent them an email the next day (12/9/20) when I saw nothing had been sent out and I did not get a response. It’s now 2 days later (12/10/20)and no email has been sent out and residents have not even been alerted to be cautious. The complete disregard for my situation by the staff is unprofessional and disheartening. I would have thought at the very least they would care enough about their residents to let them know to be careful but, they couldn’t even do that.

The new property management ruined this place

Any good reviews haven't dealt with the current management.

I have lived here under 3 different property management companies - the first built this place, the second "flipped" it and made lots of improvements, and the latest is just using it as a cash cow. They brought a minimal maintenance crew, stopped answering phone calls from residents, and froze all of the improvements that the previous management started.

The walls are extremely thin. Get used to hearing every sound your neighbors...
make!

We made a maintenance request for our door lock, and they didn't fix it! The guy said it's up to me to call the door company!

Lots of smokers live here, so it's not "smoke-free" as they say.

None of the utilities are included, so the real rent due is about $200 more per month.

I used to love living here. I hate seeing what the current management has done to the place.
