Gaslighting and complete disregard for their tenants and property

Sequoia is the worst property management company I’ve ever dealt with. My time at the Vintage has been a nightmare, and I can’t wait to move out.

I moved in sight unseen, and the apartment was in awful condition: it smelled of fumes, the carpet was filthy, and everything was dirty. The carpet hadn't been replaced and the walls hadn’t been painted in years. Despite numerous complaints, the leasing office did nothing. I ended up moving in a month late due to extensive cleaning and scrubbing. I...
noticed a cat litter smell in the bedroom but initially ignored it.

During my lease, maintenance visits were random and ineffective, often marked as complete without resolution. My name wasn’t added to the gate list, which was less of an issue since the gate has been broken for most of my lease and makes loud noises.

Security is minimal; Signal makes occasional checks, but I’ve seen masked individuals breaking into cars. If you have a dog, invest in a headlamp due to poor lighting.

My air conditioner broke in summer and took about a month to fix. I noticed a strange taste in the bedroom, which worsened over time and was due to the previous tenant’s cat spraying. Despite using enzyme cleaners, the smell persisted and had seeped into the concrete. I had to move my bed to the dining area because the fumes were overwhelming. The carpet cleaner didn’t show up on the scheduled day, and when he did come, he was indifferent. The smell in the bedroom worsened, and the dining area also had a strong cat ammonia odor.

I’ve paid rent for months while essentially being poisoned. My dog and I have stayed with friends due to the apartment’s uninhabitable condition. I’ve spent hundreds on cleaning supplies and repairs, including removing urine-soaked wooden boards.

Last night, I had to open all the windows because of suffocating fumes and found more spots needing priming. The office suggested moving units, but given their track record, I’m wary of that. My lease ends in two months, so why pay for movers twice?

Their "valet" trash service is disruptive, with collections right outside the bedroom door at 2 or 3 a.m.

This place is poorly managed and dirty, with trash everywhere and filthy stairways. Positive reviews seem misleading. I hope this helps others avoid the same mistake.

Wonderful place to live

I have lived at The Vintage on 3 separate occasions and have always loved my time here. The community is very well maintained, beautiful, and welcoming. This is absolutely one of the best apartment complexes to live at in Reno. I love it here!!!

Beautiful Property

This property has so much to offer and the staff truly makes you feel at home. The mature trees, grass and amenities are a plus. The grounds are clean and there is a beautiful pond on the back of the property!

Unfortunate Experience

This is advertised as a luxury complex with prices to match but things weren't as I expected. Here are some details:

* Dog waste everywhere: Dog waste is not picked up and is pervasive across the grounds; community rules around this are not enforced. For several consecutive weeks the overflowing dog waste receptacles were not emptied and it was not picked up on a regular cadence after that was sorted.

* Poor Safety: Cars are regularly broken into. There are no security cameras and I rarely saw...
security patrols even when I took my dog out late at night. There was a stabbing at the complex and no safety changes were made after that as far as I'm aware.

* Poor maintenance standards: Apartments that are up for rent and should be ready for move in are not. Mine was not ready by any means and was also very dirty and it took some serious complaints to fix, which they did. However, other apartments were in the same boat. For example, not long ago one was found to have a lot of mold under the kitchen sink with the floor in the kitchen bubbling up due to a long-standing leak when it was shown to a potential resident. The pool was closed for most of the summer because the pumps weren't working; garage doors are falling off their hinges and not fixed for months; the front gates had been broken for over 6 months and when they were finally fixed no residents who had moved in over the last 9+ months could be added to the directory. We kept getting promises that these things would be addressed and they weren't.

* There are lovely mature trees and grass areas here - there's a lot going for it! It's sad because I really liked my apartment layout and it was nice once everything was fixed. I liked my neighbors and made a lot of friends at the dog park, too. There was just too much that was not taken care of outside of my apartment and too many broken promises for me to stay.

Not recommended

The Vintage is advertised as a "luxury" complex with prices to match but it is very far from that. The leasing office and maintenance personnel are apathetic at best and willfully negligent at worst. Some of the highlights (lowlights?) of my 5 months at The Vintage include:

* Dog feces everywhere: Dog feces is not picked up and is pervasive across the grounds. The Vintage does not enforce its rules for cleaning up despite having dog owners pay $40 for Poo Prints (I never saw it used and they...
always made excuses for why they didn't). For several consecutive weeks over the summer the overflowing dog waste receptacles were not emptied. Tip: do not walk on the grass as you're likely to step in some poo.

* Poor Safety: Cars are regularly broken into. There are no security cameras and the security firm hired rarely patrols. There was a stabbing at the complex in the autumn and in a separate incident there was a brawl between maintenance personnel. No safety changes were made after that as far as I'm aware.

* Maintenance is nonexistent: When I got my keys my apt had holes in every wall, major damage in all countertops, dust and dead bugs everywhere, pipes not connected under sinks, and general filth everywhere. The complex made it right at the time but the person who helped me no longer works there. Another apartment up for lease during the summer had mold under the kitchen sink with the floor in the kitchen bubbling up due to a long-standing leak when it was shown to a potential resident. The pool was closed for most of the summer because the pumps weren't working; garage doors are falling off their hinges and not fixed for months; the front gates had been broken for over 6 months and when it was finally "fixed," no residents who had moved in over the last 9+ months could be added to the directory (still broken for all I know). We kept getting promises that these things would be addressed and they weren't.
