Do Not Recommend
I moved into the Madamore apartments in February, and my experience has been disappointing. When I first arrived, I noticed several issues: the bathroom door had soap scum, and the stove was not properly cleaned, leaving a residue. Despite these initial concerns, I settled in and tried to make the best of my stay.
Unfortunately, my experience worsened over time. After unexpectedly losing my job, I reached out to the leasing office for assistance but received no support. I understand the need... for policies, but their handling lacked empathy or flexibility. For instance, they apply a $115 late fee immediately after the first of the month and another around the 10th if rent remains unpaid.
Although I managed to secure help from outside resources and catch up on rent, I faced further challenges in November when I was late again. The leasing office not only added two late fees but also filed for eviction. To avoid this, I inquired about breaking my lease and was told I would need to pay two months’ rent plus any outstanding balance. We agreed that if I moved out by the 25th of the month, the eviction proceedings would stop.
Upon moving out, I ensured the apartment was clean and in good condition. However, when I reviewed my final balance, I was surprised to see additional charges, including a $75 cleaning fee, a $35 fee for a broken door handle, and a $1,515 lease termination fee. I spoke with Jason in the leasing office, who agreed to remove the cleaning fee but refused to adjust the charge for the door handle, even though maintenance had recently replaced the locks.
Adding to my frustrations, I was charged $600 for a stove replacement back in august after the original stove malfunctioned and the glass broke. I was not at fault for the malfunction, yet I was held financially responsible, which felt unfair and unwarranted.
Safety was another major concern during my stay. My boyfriend’s car was stolen, and I personally witnessed a break-in at the complex. While I reported the incident, no action was taken.
The only positive aspect of my experience was the maintenance team, which was always prompt and helpful. However, the leasing office staff was often unresponsive, and I had to follow up multiple times to get a response to my inquiries.
