Don't live here

I moved out 6 months ago and have not received a refund of the deposit. I was told both in person and writing I would get my full deposit back. Living here was a nightmare. The AC won't get below 80 in the summer and the heat won't keep up with freezing weather because they won't fix the leaking windows. We had our HVAC unit leak and they couldn't find the water shut off for the unit. They refused to shut the water off to the building, I lived on the 9th floor so my neighbors also had their... closets flooded.

Don't rent here.

Deposit

I moved out of my appartment on July 23 and my lease was up at the end of August 2022. My lease was paid thru the end of August. I completed all required paper work and left a forwarding address. In the middle of September when I inquired about the status of the deposit I was told that my forwarding address had been lost and mngt would resolve in 7-10 days and a check would be sent. I have yet to hear anything from mngt. of this property. I have called, emailed and shown up in person. NO ONE... is communicating with me. I really think they want me to forget about my $500 deposit and give up. I really liked living in the place until this debacle. If your thinking of moving in to a property owned by this company I would beware.

brown water and owners do not care.

Move in to the classen back in April. Since we have been there we have had light brown to dark brown water. This happens when the hot water is on. So basiclly you take a shower and get to have brown water running. dont even try and take a bath or it looks like you are bathing in tea. After multiple conversations with the property managers and regional mangers the keep saying we are working on it. I ended up emailing everyone including the owner of Vesta properties(the company that owns the... classen tower. After much arguing they said they finally have an idea of the problem and will be working to fix it. But the time in talking with the managment staff and owner was horrible. It went as far as to the owner of the company saying he doesnt want to argue continue a chain of arguments with me anymore. But continuing on with the classen. They claim luxury apartments but there is nothing luxury about it. If you walk the building and everywhere you will find rusted pipes that leak everywhere. When it rain multiple tenets have leaking windows and have to get pots and pans out to collect the water. The office and concierage desk will flood all the way to the elevators when it rains. Not to mention that you will have to walk in 3 inches of water to your vehicle. Most apartments will not cool down during the days because all the windows leak and it will be close to 80 degrees in your apartment. I guess my biggest complaint with them is the fact that Vest property just has no care for the people who live there. I went to there corporate office one day to talk them and knocked on there door and they just shut there office doors and acted like they did not see me. This company is just out for your money and will not do anything to help and fix any problems.

Lack of urgency

If you are looking to move in and Vista is still managing the property, don't. Multiple issues pop up with it being an older building and we knew this moving in. The pains of living in a historical landmark was something we were more than willing to deal with. However, that was before the Managment changed. We moved in February of 2021 and have gone through a few companies/ managers now. The most recent company (Vista) doesn't respond quickly to emergency work orders or ignores them. My partner... put in a work order about the toilet leaking before noon, when coming home (at 6pm) to check on the towels he put down to wash them, it was clear no one had been by to look at this. All 3 towels that were set down were completely soaked and water reached the vanity. The office closes at 5pm, so the only people I can speak with are the overnight crew. The overnight crew doesn't always know what work orders have been submitted to the office so they have to call and check with the office staff and maintenance. When receiving a call back after the overnight crew had to do this leg work, I was told they put in a work order for the following morning. I had to explain the work order was put in over 6 hours ago and it was still actively leaking. I'm now unable to follow out with my plans for the evening due to waiting to see if someone will come out to look at an active leak. Not only is it unfair to me as a resident who pays rent on time every month, but to our downstairs neighbors how might also have to deal with their lack of urgency for emergency work orders.

Not worth the rent.

We are no longer residents at this apartment. We planned to stay here for many years because we loved the place and we've lived here for two years, and 3 years before: 2013 to 2016 and 2020 to 2022. There were several reasons why we decided to move out and some major issues are still unresolved as follows: windows are leaking whenever it rains, some amenities are not available for certain period of time since we moved in the last two years like swimming pool, hot tub, some gym equipment are... still broke, homeless people entering the apartment building digging in the outside trash and scattering them on the floor, absence of "24-hour" concierge service from time to time and it's supposed to be a secured place, nonresident entering the building and using the laundry room, elevators are often broke where some residents get stuck for more than an hour, air condition problems especially when outside temperature is high and the apartment temperature reached up to 90 degrees, and maintenance requests are being ignored and often unanswered for a few days, weeks and months. There are more issues that I have addressed before and some have not been answered. We realize that this property has a new owner and new staff that weren’t responsible for previous issues that I have mentioned. We pay our rent on time and sometimes in advance. We expect to receive what we are paying for like the following:
Washer/Dryer - old appliances
Washer/Dryer Hookup - the washer smells like mold
Air Conditioning - frequent break down
Heating - sometimes not working
Ceiling Fans - always on low speed
Tub/Shower - sub standard
Dishwasher - old
Warming Drawer - not in our apartment
Carpet* - old carpet
Panoramic Window View - windows leak whenever it rains. The current property manager will ignore you if you have any problems in your unit. It takes a few days to answer the email and sometimes no reply. Left several messages to call me, no returned calls. This place is going down hill. "You can't put a band aid over a large issue and make it look like everything is ok or will be better. They have to walk the talk and so far it's all talk.
Rent at your own risk.

Property Manager at The Classen responded to this review

Hello,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologize for these concerns that you had during your experience here. We are new management as of fall of 2021. It seems that some of your concerns may have been ongoing...
before we became managers of the building, however we are constantly looking to improve the experience for our residents. To address a couple of your concerns; we do have 24/7 concierge service as well as security overnight. The only time concierge step away from the desk, they secure the doors, and take a phone with them to remain accessible. The staff only leaves the desk to take a quick break, walk the property, or deliver packages. For all maintenance issues, we do require a work order to be submitted in order to address these issues. All emergency work orders, including heat/air, can be addressed immediatley with our 24/7 on call maintenance staff.

We will be taking note of this feedback and using it to improve our protocals. If you would like to hear from a member of the staff, please reach out at 405-601-3333 or at theclassen@vestarealproperty.com.
