Do not get a place at Laurel wood. This has been the most expensive and worst place I have ever been in.
Let me start by first mentioning how terrible the drafts are downstairs. We have a smart space heater that registers ambient temperature. In the winter we have our thermostat set to 68. Our heat constantly runs with our space heater reading ambient temperature at 59 degrees. Our upstairs gets extra hot, around 79 degrees (due to the heat constantly running). A lot of this is due to a... storage shed attached to the laundry closet with no insulation. Oh and our water pipes are also exposed in this un-insulated storage shed. So in the winter, you need to run a space heater in the storage shed and/or run water at night so your pipes don't freeze/burst. Which has happened multiple times. So keep in mind your are going to spend an extra $200-$275 a month just to keep your house warm and pipes not freezing.
Moving to the upstairs. On your way upstairs you will immediately notice all the steps and the ENTIRE second floor is absurdly creaky. Now let me preface that we moved in when covid was still bad and they would not allow in person tours (never not do an in person tour!!). The second floor is so creaky our 9 lb. cats can't walk around without making noise.
Outside we have chipmunks who have gotten in the foundation of the apartment. At first we heard them in our wall by the front door and this year we started hearing them below the ground floor.
Every year they raise rent "due to inflation". Now, you pay for every utility except for trash at this place. And from above I just got done explaining how absolute garbage these places are. So where are inflation costs going to? Because they aren't going toward making the apartments better.
We are incredibly clean people and they send us an email saying we need to get the carpets professional cleaned before leaving. If we don't, it is $227 out of our security deposit. If you have never rented an apartment, it is good practice for the apartment owners to rip out carpet and put fresh carpet in without any charge to your security deposit because it needs to be done. You don't know what the previous tenant was like. They could have had bed bugs!! So 1 of 2 things is happening. They take that "cleaning fee" and change carpets anyway, or they keep the previous tenants carpet in which is absolutely disgusting and absurd. I have never in my life not gotten my full security deposit back.
