It was nice place and I would probably move back.

After five years of living in these apartments and being single, life happened. I had to move to a bigger place in an area that wasn't as loud and busy. I loved the fact that just about everything was in walking distance, the staff changed a few a times over the years but the place seemed to have kept a constant good vibe. Getting things fixed was normally easy and there a few issues that I felt took longer than needed but they always kept their word. One of my biggest issues before moving was... that ALCO the property management company cut daytime security out and limited the night crew. When that happened you saw and heard a difference. If the sounds of downtown don't bother you then I would recommend this place.

Terrible

The management, for one, is hands down the worst I've ever dealt with. From the beginning, the woman we spoke with was unprofessional, rude, and not at all transparent about what we were getting ourselves into when we decided to apply to live here. I had been emailing her questions leading up to our moving out, and I came to find out she had been let go from the company. What a surprise. Thanks for letting me know that I was emailing no one...?
Then the front door literally wouldn't shut...
without scraping the entire side of the wall because of how poorly it was fixed.
Next, we had no hot water in our kitchen sink for about two weeks when we moved in. It was nice of her to make sure that was working before she hurried out.
The security gate stopped working twice, so we had no way of getting in to where we lived. And this so -called "security" gate lets just about everyone and their mother into the facility, so there's no point in having it. The security guards don't do anything, even though we are in a dangerous part of the city with homelessness and crime literally lurking around the corner. It's next to the Shelby County jail, but they won't tell you that when you're looking at living here.
The walls are extremely thin so you can hear everything that your neighbors are saying and doing.
Did I mention the cockroaches? Oh yeah, and they let us sit on that for a few weeks too.
And then we had a mouse that we had to buy our own traps for in order to get rid of. You would think they would’ve checked for places where any bug or rodent could enter the townhouse when they came in to spray for cockroaches.
Don't let the whole "free" wifi nonsense persuade you. No wifi. It goes out about every two minutes and when I called the company they used to get help, they told me that Uptown Square provides a wifi not meant for use in homes, and therefore he suggested we buy our own router.

Did I mention the soaking wet carpets when we moved in? They knew what time we were coming, and they postponed cleaning the carpets until right before we arrived with our furniture. We couldn’t even put our bags down on the floor, so we had to wait to move our stuff in. Were we compensated for that in any way? Of course not, it’s Uptown Square after all.
I could go on and on but let me tell you, the best day was the day I moved out of this place. Please do not give your business to these people.

Cozy Dowtown

This is a quiet, cozy gated apartment community. Nestled in the heart of downtown, it has a great location if you want to be in or near the city. The staff and security are always very helpful with any needs I have, whether it's helping me get back in my apartment if I locked myself out or putting my name on the list for the weekly pest control provided. In the five years I've been here, I do not know of any crimes or related problems. I actually left my door open by mistake twice. The first... time I returned home three hours later; it was still open and no one had touched a thing. The second time the groundskeeper told me he closed it for me after waiting to see if I was home. The apartments are well kept inside and out. My loft style townhouse is great size for one person and my walk-in closet is huge. The gym and computer center leave something to be desired but overall, the apartments are great.
