Good but overpriced!
So I've been living at Brookside for over 3 months now, I moved in officially June 17th. So far I've found the complex to be a great place to live especially considering this is my first apartment. My unit was newly refurbished before I moved in. The unit is quite spacious with a living room that includes a dining area. The kitchen is on the small side with mininal counter space but suitable for one person. The unit comes with washer and dryer which is a must have. There's a patio and storage... door. The bathroom has shelves for towels and other storage. The bedroom is a nice size with enough manovour room even while having a full size bed. The bedroom has reasonable closet space and includes a built in desk which is essential for my work. I've reached out to maintenence twice; once to fix the dishwasher as it wasn't working and another to fix the water temperature as it wasn't getting hot. Both visits went by seamlessly and I was attended to no later than a day. I've yet to have a bad experience with staff. As far as negatives I'd say that the fridge is outdated despite being told it was new it seems it's just an old fridge painted black. It's not a stainless steel fridge. The soap holder in the dishwasher is useless and maintenance advised I pour my soap in the bottom of the dishwasher and only a drop otherwise the place would be flooded with bubbles. There have been 2 instances where I was woken up by the sound of neighbors arguing outside. The mailbox is at the office so it's a bit of a walk for me to get my mail. They tell you to put your trash bag in the bin outside your unit only problem is I was never given one or mine was stolen so I've had to place the bag outside without the bin. Maintenance does their routine checks and I believe they should wear a mask while doing so. But the most egregious con of all is the rent - extremely overpriced for the area! Even with refurbishing there's no reasonable explanation as to why a 1bed in Killeen should cost the same as a 1bed in Houston. Every month I'm hit with new and inconspicuous fees for water or drainage and trash costing more than what is stated on my lease. Even if you don't use the services they charge you. I'm fairly certain this place will only increase rent next year and in that event I will definitely be moving. I do like the apartment as it's clean and I've had no issues with bugs which in my opinion is a blessing but I just cannot justify the rent that is eating majority of my paycheck.
