Rapidly Going Downhill

When I first moved in, several years ago, this seemed like a decent place to live. It's close to the freeway, it's back off of main roads so there's not much traffic noise, and the staff was very friendly and aimed to please. I thought the biggest problem would be the appliances from 1990.

Fast forward to present:
*There is a HUGE humidity problem, and mildew and mold grow in the bathrooms as well as around all the windows;
*They've been re-roofing and repainting the buildings, as well as...
re-surfacing the parking lot since JUNE 1ST and they're STILL not done;
*Rent has gone up from $945 a month to $1065 a month just over a few years, and I am expecting a huge increase because of the work done to the exteriors of the buildings;
*There is not enough parking,and they allow non-functioning vehicles to remain parked indefinitely, such as a car with 4 flat tires and tabs that expired in 2003
*Maintenance seems to pick and choose which repairs/requests they complete;
*Management will not do anything about noisy neighbors, and told me to take care of it;
*Management will not de-ice slippery sidewalks, and told me to de-ice if I want it done;

Bottom line, it's not the worst place ever, but if management doesn't improve it soon will be.

Wish I had never moved here

I only moved here because of the close proximity to a new job. I was shown one apartment but was given another to move into. the one that I did move into was old and dated. The cabinets are laminated pressboard and about half of the edge banding has fallen off. Maintenance's solution to this is to simply paint the edges of the exposed pressboard. The pressboard under the sink has been wet repeatedly and is badly warped. This too has been poorly painted. Hinges are cheap and are out of alignment... . Think 2nd hand IKEA rejects! The only thing that would be cheaper than the carpets in my apartment would be cardboard, you can see where every nail hole has ever been in the walls by the shoddy patch work.

My washing machine started leaking the first time I used it, I reported this to the leasing office and nothing was done until my downstairs neighbor complained of water coming through his ceiling. At that point it was replaced. While they were replacing the washer, I pointed out that the hot water tank was very very rusty and was told that they could only replace it if it was leaking. Within days, it too was leaking.

The lights in my stairwell has been out for months and I have reported it to maintenance several times and nothing has been done. Shortly after moving in, I noticed a blue tarp on my roof. After almost a year, the roof is finally being replaced.

The pool is closed more than it is open because they're "waiting on parts" The management will flat out lie to you. parking is almost impossible to find after 6pm. There are many other apartment communities that are nicer, offer better amenities and are in the same price range. My advice would be to find somewhere else other than Berkeley Heights apartments.
