Illegally withholds security deposit for all tenants

They withheld my security deposit at move out despite my unit being clean and claimed that they have regular cleaning charges for all tenants that they use the deposit for. They only returned my deposit once I sued in small claims (for the amount of my deposit plus damages). I am writing this because it is an illegal and predatory practice to charge a default fee to tenants for moving out, regardless of the unit’s condition, and any potential renters should know. A quick google search will... confirm that but they rely on tenants not knowing in order to keep their deposits.
