Expensive and Insecure Building But Nice Area

The R2 building is expensive for the area but the area is nice. The issues beyond the expense include an insecure entry to the building via the main gate which remains wide open for whoever to enter the building because the lock gets jammed all the time. Also the packages randomly get strewn outside, sometimes inside the mail room and sometimes by your door. There is no front desk or concierge staff which there should be given the rent. Units that get turned over do so with cheaper floors, locks... and light fixtures - you can't ask for high rent and cheapen the building.

Defintely Not Worth The Rent But Some Units Are True Loft Style

R2 has some interesting units, some even are real lofts, and is in a decent neighborhood at least relatively speaking but of late (2023) things have gotten bad:

Plumbing is an issue with old pipes getting blocked and LA HydroJet having to clean out the crap (literally).

You will hear fire alarms all the time because they are either testing them or they just go off when you or your neighbors cook. And if you are by the pool or gym get ready for splashes, screaming and the pumping iron at any...
time. They installed a punching bag which is cool but now you can hear wannabe MMA stars screaming and punching it any hour.

As of 2023 there is a massive construction site across the building - the construction noise is all day every day except Sundays and looks like it will go on for years. It throws up dust and chemicals in the air.

The apartments are kind of arty but they have gotten rid of the real hardwood and replaced them with fake wood.

The rents seem high given the condition of the building and the lack of a concierge staff or front desk. Packages are supposed to be placed in a mail room but often they just get left outside and get stolen.

Maintenance staff is nice but they drag their feet. Even if your work is High Priority or an Emergency they will get to you when they get to you. Not sure if they are overworked or if it is just a callous attitude.

You can't ask for too much from management who may or may not respond to emails and your lease is written in such a manner that your deposit will be worthless and your ability to get into a serious legal argument is neutered. Not that any of that is worth it.

I would say there are better places for the money R2 wants. So look around.

Dismissive Attitude

I called to inquire about the available apartments I’ve been watching online and the person over the phone seemed to treat me with a dismissive attitude as if there were 0 units available. Very rude from the start and seemed like he was steering me away from the property. Thanks for that though, will not consider any CLG property.
