Overpriced and understaffed

The apartment used to be a great place in a great location. However the management has gone downhill over the past several years. General upkeep has suffered, amenities have been removed and maintenance issues are far more frequent. There's often issues with the elevators being non functional, building wide fire alarms are common, there's been several water leaks in the building, general cleaning has been reduced in common areas, laundry machines are out of service often, the management is... harder to reach and security has been more lax.

The place used to have a 24 hour concierge and full time office staff that made sure things were handled properly and maintained well. That was cut during COVID and since then it's clear that the property is no longer a focus for the management team. It's not horrible but it's way overpriced for what it offers. You're better off looking at one of the newer buildings in the area that haven't given up.

Not very communicative

I tried reaching out to schedule a tour several times and have yet to be reached out to. Such a shame, the place looks nice.

Great Location, Space, and Staff

The Albert is one of the best places you could live in the city. The location is excellent, especially in the summer when Capitol Park is always bustling and beautiful green space is right outside your door and easy to access. It's super close to great restaurants and amenities downtown - I don't even own a car because I don't need to living here.

The apartments are spacious, you can't hear your neighbors, and the appliances are all modern. If you're used to apartment living, you'll likely be...
happy with your unit. The only downside is hearing trash pickup in the morning if you're on the alley side. As another review said, the rent is high but I think it's definitely worth it (especially if you compare it to apartments in the heart of downtown in almost any other US city).

To round it out, the staff here is super nice and helpful. Marcus at the front desk is extremely helpful and always willing to help out if you have an issue with packages or anything else. Emily from the leasing office is also great - she is super responsive and very helpful in answering any questions or issues that may arise.

Good but over priced

The building is really nice. The staff is super friendly. The place is full of dogs (which I love) and the staff loves them too. The have a doggy bathing station too which is awesome. There is also free coffee and pop all day every day. The location is awesome; super close walk to the Compuware Building. However, not everyone is happy up the changes in Detroit, especially the bums at Capitol Park, who play cards, smoke pot and get drunk, which is all fine and dandy, until they start harassing... the residents and making it uncomfortable for us to walk our pets and be outside. The area is up and coming but some folks aren’t ready for this change.

Also, they don’t have in-unit laundry machines so you have to take it to the basement. The laundry machines take 2 or 3 washes to get them clean and most are covered in dog hair. The credit card machines on the washers also break a lot. There was 3 weeks straight where we could not do our laundry because none of the machines were reading our cards.

There are also lot of old building problems. The elevators are always broken; the windows were never updated so it's either really hot in the summer or FREEZING cold in the winter. I literally never slept in my bedroom all winter because we could not get it warmer that 60 degrees in there. We even tried space heaters but that just made my electric bill sky rocket. I was paying about $150 a month to DTE in the winter.

The other major issue is that they do not have a loading dock. So when you return from the grocery store you need to find a spot on the street or bring all your stuff from the garage. If you try putting on your hazards, the cops will ticket you (been there; done that).

All in all, if (and only if) the windows get replaced; they added washer and dryers to each unit; and we had a loading dock, I would have probably stayed a few more years, happily paying $1,700 in rent. But at the end of the day, it’s harder to live at the Albert, next door to my office, then drive 30 minutes from outside the city.
