FLEAS
One word: FLEAS. I moved in 6 weeks ago and have been plagued by a flea infestation left over from the previous owner´s pets (I don´t have pets). There were other problems when I moved in too. The apartment was not ready until 4:30pm on the move-in date, and the carpet was so filthy that it had to be replaced after I moved in. However, the big problem has been the persistent flea infestation.
In the complex management´s defense, they have made efforts to help rid the apartment of fleas. Eric... has been great and has had the apartment treated three times, but I am still catching fleas in a trap and picking them off my legs.
Following the second unsuccessful treatment, I requested to be moved to another Hawthorne apartment or be allowed to terminate my lease. This request was denied by the regional manager. So, they treated the apartment a third time, and after returning home following Thanksgiving, I am still finding fleas.
I do not agree with how this was handled by the regional manager. I believe that I should have been allowed to leave after the second unsuccessful flea treatment instead of being left to wallow around in flea poison for a third (and unsuccessful) time.
At this point I have only paid rent twice, and I am already looking forward to my lease ending. Hawthorne´s handling of this on the regional level has left a bad taste in my mouth and tarnished their reputation in my eyes. I only wish I had seen a review like this prior to making the poor choice to rent here.
