Avoid at all cost

DO NOT LIVE HERE! Price is not worth the tiny 400 sq foot box you will be living in. Very old appliances including a tiny oven we had to buy smaller pans for which still barely fit. Gave us a notice saying we had to inform them that we were moving out 2 months in advance, they put that on our door 2 months before our move out day so absolutely no time to properly inform them. Then they make you pay pro-rated rent because you don't get to actually move out when you want it's exactly 2 months... after you get the notice so had to pay and extra 2 weeks of rent when we had been moved out for a month PLUS month to month rate they added on for fun which is an additional 500+ dollars. Then they tell us that the final month's utility bill is 160, it's never usually over 100 and now it's 160 when we weren't even there for the past month? Finally they tell us that that there is enough damages to use up our entire security deposit and we still owe 50 bucks. Again do not live here they will find any way to take money from you that they can.

Property Manager at Thornhill Park Apartments responded to this review

We are sorry that you feel that way and we're sorry to hear about your experience. We want to address your concerns to hopefully clarify a few things. Regarding the 60-day notice, your lease agreement requires a 60-day notice before your move-out... date. We understand that the timing might have been challenging, but we provided multiple notifications to ensure you were aware of the requirement. For the final utility bill, we understand it can be surprising if it deviates from your usual amount. If you believe there was an error, please contact us directly so we can review the charges. The condition of the apartment at move-out affects the security deposit. We assess any damages according to the terms of your lease agreement. If you have concerns about the charges, we are open to discussing them with you to provide clarity. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss your concerns in more detail, please reach out to us directly.

Worst apartment and staff

Thornhill park apartments has been the absolute worst apartment experience I have ever had. First off, When I moved in the apartment was filthy. I was told someone would come clean it, but they never did. There was black gunk in the shower and sink drains along with old strands of hair. The oven had grease and grime stuck all over it. I have tried to clean it multiple times but some of it does not come off. The appliances are all terribly old as well. Besides the nasty, old, tiny and overpriced... apartment, there is dog poop everywhere outside. I literally have to watch every step. There is also only one (not very strong) lock on the door and for the amount of police and yelling in the neighborhood, it seems incredibly unsafe. The hot tub has never worked, which was promised in the add. We never received a gym key despite asking several times. Now, even though we told them we were moving out on our contracted lease end date, they are still trying to charge for an extra month that we will not be here at a higher rate. They claim we didn't put our 60 day leave in when we did. I have never had a contract turn into a month to month lease at the end of the signed contract date. Management does not do a good job to let residents know about that policy that, ultimately, seems to be in place to scam their residents. This is not a subscription service, it is a contracted lease. Abigail was incredibly rude on the phone and hung up on me when I expressed how dirty the apartment was. Their generic responses to past reviews mean nothing because when you actually try to talk to them they are rude and hang up on you. I never leave bad reviews but I am so frustrated with the management here and will be working to contact corporate to complain about how rude their staff is.

Worst and expensive

You can find a better place at a better rate. Please do not think of living at this place. Be ready to pay heavy fine when you are moving out. They will make sure that you are charged for everything as much they can. Charged me full price for the carpeting saying the carpet they used for the apartment is no more available for the market.

Really disappointed.

WORST place I have had the pleasure to live.

Don’t even think about moving here. This apartment complex is not very trust worthy and they charge way more than they should for the condition and size of the apartments. The workers in the office are friendly and like to say they will help, and work with you but it will never end up in your favor, once they feel the time for talking is over and they want money, the nice attitude wears off quite a bit. They try and bribe the residents to give good reviews while they live there. It worked with... me but now that I am moved out they want almost $500 for a move out fee on a studio apartment (390 sqft) that was cleaned, vacuumed, and professionally cleaned. All which I have a paid for already. Keep in mind my first cost was well under $200 to get the apartment cleaned better than it was when I first moved in. The staff are hard to work with in this mannor, there have been other occasions as well an it seems like they always have the upper hand.

A lot of issues

Moving to Salt Lake from New York City, I had little knowledge about the areas of SLC and how the rental process works, which is extremely different. I have had multiple issues since living hear, including re-signing leases multiple times due to issues with signatures, being given a smoking apartment when my lease was actually signed for a non-smoking apartment, etc. When washers and dryers were "installed" I signed a lease 2 months before they actually were installed and had a closet removed... the entire 2 months, and was initially expected to pay the increased rent without having the washer and dryer. That being said, when the new hot water heater was placed in the apartment, they did not place it on a metal base, and is still to this day sitting on my carpeted floors (which is potentially a fire hazard). Throughout the winter, my heat went out 4 times, and on the last "attempt" to fix it, the maintenance guy gave me a space heater to keep next to my bed because they didn't know how to fix it. Needless to say, the next person who will be renting my unit will not have heat. Lastly, after living in many apartments across in many states across the country, I have never heard of a 1 year lease switching to a month-to-month rental agreement without a 60 day notice that you will vacate, when your lease is supposed to end. I thought that was the reason for signing a one year lease, rather than a month to month rental agreement. I have also been told different days of my lease termination.... ranging from 3 different weeks, that being said, I missed my 60 day "notice that I will leave the apartment when I was supposed to" and am stuck paying for an extra month rent, without me even living in the state of Utah. I am not one to write reviews or to complain, but especially for those moving from out of town, there are nicer apartments, in nicer areas (I caught a guy looking into my car and pulling on the handle one morning as I was leaving for work), for similar prices.

We are sorry to hear that your time at our community has not been as pleasant as you have hoped. We understand your frustration, and we would love the opportunity to discuss these concerns with you. When you moved in, the community was under a... different management company and were unaware of these problems upon move in. Once we installed the washer and dryer you requested, we require all of our residents to sign a new lease. Unfortunately we had to charge you an additional month because you gave us a 30 day notice when the lease states you must require a 60 day notice. We would love to discuss any other concerns you may have and highly encourage you to come by the office or give us a call.
