Terrible experience

Should have listened to the negative reviews before we moved in. Our apartment has a cockroach infestation after our disgusting neighbors left garbage out and around for months before management did anything about it. Now they are not responding promptly to the pest issue and every person you talk to in the office claims it’s not their problem and to talk to another person who gives you the same line. It’s been a month since the issue began and no one is making it a priority to resolve. Even... seeking another place to live as this one is becoming inhabitable with a 4 month old baby crawling on the floor with roaches; and they have the audacity to charge 200% of rent for early move out. Greedy business that won’t connect and work with you to resolve issues.

It's a lifestyle

I am moving out of the apartment. Not because I have complaints about the apartment, but because I fell in love with the community and decided to purchase my own home a few blocks away. It has been a blessing to come home to a beautiful, I dare say scenic community. I have a dog, and almost everyone here does. The apartments is set up for dog owners. The mailbox loop is particularly iconic featuring a hill, a garden, lush trees and beautiful buildings. The apartment layout is ideal for single... folk or families. This property is well designed, well managed and we'll maintained. I have only had minor maintenance issues like a vertical blind blade needing to be replaced but they respond within the hour of placing maintenance requests. When apartments are getting smaller and smaller for more and more money, Palermo has a lot to offer for a more than reasonable price tag.

Sketchy ethics and property management

From day 1 we experienced poor customer service, and that held true through every experience we've had with the Palermo team from the maintenance people to the office staff. You have to keep an eye on everything they do and triple check its accuracy. Here is a list of areas of improvement:

1. Lease dates were incorrectly input in our documentation. We discovered this and had to have that ammended so we weren't expected to leave a month earlier than agreed upon.
2. Monthly rent payments for...
first month was incorrect and they were asking for more than we agreed upon.
3. Office told us it was ok to have electricity transferred to our name on a couple days after we moved in, but we found that they charged us $50 for the late transfer... the issue is that they assured us there was no problem and then charged us which is misleading.
4. Maintenance people left a huge sticker on our car stating our tags were expired and we needed to move our car, but they did not expire for another month. This in one of those stickers that have to be taken off with with goo gone.
5. Car ports were being cleaned with bleach by maintenance team and our brand new car was in the port and was sprayed with bleach. No notice was was given beforehand so we could choose to move our car beforehand. Thankfully no damage occurred.
6. Washer machine was broken when we moved in. Maintenance person rigged it to work temporarily, but it broke again and another maintenance person rigged it again. 30 minutes after he left the washer overflowed and flooded our second story apartment. 50% of our carpet was heavily saturated. After heated debate Palermo management reduced our liability of carpet replacement from 100% to 50%. The carpet had to be replaced since it was flooded, but they found stains in the carpet so they decided we should pay for it all, thankfully, I was able to get it down to 50%.

If you still decide to go with Palermo apartments, please understand that your deposit will not be returned unless you do not live in the apartment and it is returned better than they gave it to you. In your initial walk through they will try to rush you and assure you that they are not strict. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Mark any and everything that is wrong. Even if you believe it is ok but not a huge issue because they will charge you for it when you move out.

Love it here!

Property is very clean and quiet and the apartment itself has been very well kept and maintained. The staff is great, always seems to be in a good mood and friendly. I don’t understand some of the poor reviews for this place honestly. It’s been everything we hoped it would be. Great area, beautiful complex.

Lovely property, terrible staff

I have such mixed feelings about this place. Although overpriced our apartment was decent and I loved it. The area is nice with grocery stores and restaurants conveniently close. Unfortunately our apartment was directly behind the 24 hour grocery store, so delivery trucks are beeping and honking at all hours of the night. Twice a truck has miscalculated while backing in and struck the grocery store which shook our whole apartment building like an earthquake. The office did not divulge any of... this when we viewed the unit. The office staff is utterly terrible. The turnover rate is very high, I think the only person consistently working there during my lease was Rosemary, and she is quite rude and unwilling to help. The rest of the office staff seem to be a revolving wheel of clueless people who will tell you one thing only for you to find out later that they had no idea what they were talking about and gave you false information. In addition to these things, the parking situation is a joke. There are not enough uncovered spaces for residents to park which forces you to rent a space from them for an additional fee. People will double park each other in out of desperation to find a space, and the office is plenty tow happy. There is also only one garbage compactor for the entire complex so it is always overflowing with trash and recycling.

This isn't a place I would suggest unless you have a substantial amount in savings. In December I had an accident and hurt my back too badly to be able to work. As a single mom with kids I am the sole provider, and due to my injury I missed my rent payment. In January I went to the office with a check for three months of rent, one for the month I had missed, one for the current month, and an extra month in advance to show good faith. My payment was refused by the office and they moved forward with evicting me. Even though I followed my court paperwork and made my payments into the court registry while I awaited my court date, the office still showed up with the sheriff's department and proceeded to evict me and throw my belongings into the parking lot. Just be very cautious if you're considering this place, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend and probably not even an enemy. Best of luck.
