Misleading, unprofessional, poor communication
Misleading, unprofessional, and poor communication. I am currently a tenant with Hurwich Farms in South Bend, for nearly 15 months. I am listed as a roommate on said lease. With my lease nearing termination I contacted the office about apartments available for rent at the end of my lease. I was told because I am listed as a roommate I would need to be approved on my own and fill out an application. I did just that. I was charged a 300 dollar "holding fee" for the apartment I was applying for.... I was told the 300 dollars would go towards my first month rent and deposit due at lease signing. After I was approved I was asked for a move in date. Because I am in a lease currently I can't be in two leases so I was told my roommate would need to provide financials to get approved for the remainder of the lease on their own and do a modification. I explained this wasn't an option. I could pay myself for March and the prorated April or wait until my lease end date. I was told the apartment I applied for was no longer available and that the 300 dollar fee would not be refunded. Within two weeks I saw that same apartment listed as available on their website. I called and was told I would need to pay another 300 dollars to hold another apartment and the first 300 was not going to be used as a lease wasn't signed within two weeks. The office staff was negligent in their communication, professionalism and respect towards a prospective continuing tenant. I will be contacting the BBB. I will file a complaint with every division, on every website. I am a 20 year old hard working female. I have been mislead, I feel I have been taken advantage of and that I am literally paying the price for someone's lack of knowledge and communication. Chloe G
